What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a professional-strength solution applied to the skin to loosen and lift dull, damaged surface cells. As your skin renews, tone looks more even and texture feels smoother.

Peels range from light, with little visible flaking, to medium-depth, with a few days of peeling. Stronger isn’t automatically better. The right peel depends on what you’re treating, how sensitive your skin is and how it has reacted to treatments before.

What a peel can help with

Dark spots and melasma

Peels are one of the most common ways to fade uneven pigment, often as part of a series.

Acne marks

The flat, dark marks breakouts leave behind, known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Dullness and texture

Lifting built-up surface cells brings back brightness and a smoother feel.

Congestion

Some peels help keep pores clearer alongside an acne plan.

Peels on the menu

Tacha recommends a peel at your consultation. These are the options she offers:

Chemical peels for darker skin tones

Deeper skin tones can see excellent results from peels. They’re also more likely to develop post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation if a peel is too aggressive or aftercare is skipped.

That’s why your first step is a consultation, and why Tacha pairs every peel with prep and a homecare plan. Read more in Chemical peels for darker skin tones.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if

  • You have dark spots, melasma or acne marks you want to fade
  • Your skin looks dull or feels rough
  • You want gradual, corrective results with a plan
  • You’re any skin tone, with the peel chosen for your skin

Wait or ask first if

  • You have an active infection, cold sore or open wound in the area
  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Many treatments are postponed, so ask first.
  • You’ve recently taken isotretinoin (Accutane)
  • You have a sunburn, or heavy sun exposure planned right after

What to expect.

  1. 01

    Consult and prep

Tacha reviews your skin, history and products. Some actives, like retinoids, may need a short pause before your peel.

  2. 02

    Your peel

Skin is cleansed and the peel is applied while Tacha watches how your skin responds.

  3. 03

    Peeling

Depending on the peel, expect anything from light flaking to a few days of peeling. Let it shed and don’t pick.

  4. 04

    Homecare

Daily SPF and the products Tacha recommends protect your results between visits.

Aftercare tips

  • Let your skin shed on its own. Don’t pick or scrub.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer while you peel.
  • Wear SPF 30+ every day and stay out of direct sun.
  • Pause retinoids and exfoliating acids until Tacha says to restart.

What affects the cost

  • Which peel your skin needs, from lighter options to a level 2 peel
  • How many peels your plan includes
  • The homecare products recommended alongside your peels

Chemical peels start at $350 for a RevePeel Glow. Your exact price is confirmed at your consultation. PatientFi financing is available for eligible clients.

Chemical Peels questions.

Are chemical peels safe for Black skin and darker skin tones?

They can be, when the peel strength, prep and aftercare are right for your skin. Tacha treats Fitzpatrick types I–VI, chooses peels with deeper skin tones in mind, and builds a homecare plan to lower the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

How much does a chemical peel cost in Atlanta?

Chemical peels start at $350 for a RevePeel Glow. Pricing depends on which peel your skin needs, so it’s confirmed at your consultation. Financing is available through PatientFi for eligible clients.

How many peels will I need?

Some clients notice a change after one peel. Corrective concerns like melasma, dark spots and acne marks usually take a series of peels, spaced out so your skin can recover, plus consistent homecare.

Is there downtime after a chemical peel?

It depends on the peel. Lighter options like PRX usually cause little visible peeling, while stronger peels can mean several days of flaking. You’ll know what to expect for your peel before you book it.

Can I get a peel while using tretinoin or retinoids?

Usually, yes, but some products may need a short pause before your peel. Tell Tacha about every prescription and active product at your consult.

Can a chemical peel treat melasma?

Peels are a common part of melasma plans. Melasma tends to return with sun, heat and hormones, so results last best with daily SPF, homecare and maintenance. See hyperpigmentation treatment.

What should I avoid after a chemical peel?

Direct sun, picking at flaking skin, harsh scrubs, and retinoids or acids until your skin has recovered. You’ll get aftercare instructions for your specific peel.

When will I see results?

Brightness often shows once your skin finishes shedding. Pigment and texture improve gradually over a series.
