What is a PICO laser?

A PICO laser delivers energy in picoseconds, trillionths of a second. Those ultra-short pulses break pigment into tiny particles that your body clears naturally, relying less on heat than lasers with longer pulses.

That’s why picosecond lasers are widely used to treat stubborn pigment. Results build over a series of sessions, and they last best when paired with daily sun protection.

What PICO can help with

Dark spots and sun spots

Brown spots from sun exposure and aging.

Acne marks

Flat, dark marks left after breakouts heal.

Uneven tone

Patchy areas that make skin look less uniform.

Unwanted tattoos

Tattoo removal is offered separately. See tattoo removal.

PICO for deeper skin tones

Treating pigment in deeper skin takes careful settings, because melanin-rich skin reacts more strongly to heat and injury. Tacha assesses your skin before any laser session and plans settings, spacing and homecare around it.

If PICO isn’t the best first step for your skin, she may start you on chemical peels or microneedling instead. Read PICO laser for hyperpigmentation for more.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if

  • You have stubborn dark spots that products haven’t faded
  • You have acne marks or sun spots
  • Your tone looks uneven or patchy
  • You can commit to daily SPF during your series

Wait or ask first if

  • You have a fresh tan or recent sunburn
  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Many treatments are postponed, so ask first.
  • You take medication that makes skin sun-sensitive (share every medication at your consult)
  • You have an active infection or open wound in the area

What to expect.

  1. 01

    Consult

Tacha confirms PICO is right for your pigment and skin tone, and reviews your products and sun exposure.

  2. 02

    Treatment

The laser passes over the treatment area. Most people describe a quick snapping sensation.

  3. 03

    After

Expect some temporary redness. Treated spots can look darker for a few days before they fade.

  4. 04

    Protect

Daily SPF is non-negotiable. Sun exposure is the fastest way to undo pigment progress.

Aftercare tips

  • Keep skin moisturized and your routine gentle for a few days.
  • Let darkened spots flake off on their own.
  • Wear SPF 30+ daily and avoid tanning.
  • Pause strong actives until Tacha says it’s okay.

What affects the cost

  • The size of the area being treated
  • How many sessions your plan includes
  • Whether PICO is combined with peels or microneedling

PICO laser starts at $750 for the face. Your exact price is confirmed at your consultation. PatientFi financing is available for eligible clients.

PICO Laser questions.

Is PICO laser safe for dark skin?

Picosecond lasers are commonly used on a wide range of skin tones, but settings matter. Tacha plans every session around your skin, and she’ll tell you at your consult if another treatment is a safer first step.

Does PICO laser hurt?

Most people describe a quick snapping or stinging sensation that’s over fast. Comfort measures are discussed at your appointment.

How many PICO sessions will I need?

Most pigment concerns need a series of sessions. Your number depends on how deep and how stubborn the pigment is, and it’s set at your consultation.

How much does PICO laser cost in Atlanta?

PICO laser starts at $750 for the face. Pricing depends on the area and your treatment plan, so it’s confirmed at your consultation. PatientFi financing is available for eligible clients.

What’s the downtime?

Usually minimal. Redness tends to settle quickly, and treated spots can darken before they flake and fade.

PICO or a chemical peel: which is better for dark spots?

It depends on the pigment. Peels work on the surface and overall tone, while PICO targets stubborn spots. Many plans use both. See hyperpigmentation treatment.

How soon will I see results from PICO?

Some spots lighten after the first session, but pigment usually fades gradually over the series.
