What is DPN?

Dermatosis papulosa nigra, or DPN, are harmless, often hereditary growths. They tend to appear around the cheeks, eyes, forehead and neck, and they’re especially common in Black skin.

DPN are benign, but many people choose to remove them for smoother, clearer-looking skin. Removed spots don’t usually come back, though new ones can form over time.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if

  • You have small, dark, raised spots on your face, neck or chest
  • Your spots catch on makeup, jewelry or clothing
  • You want smoother, clearer-looking skin
  • Any new or changing spots have been checked by a dermatologist

Wait or ask first if

  • A spot is new, changing, bleeding or irregular. See a dermatologist first
  • There’s active irritation or infection in the area
  • You have a fresh tan or sunburn

Is DPN removal safe for dark skin?

Yes, when it’s done carefully with aftercare that protects against dark marks. Tacha treats Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI and plans your aftercare at your consult.

Will DPN come back after removal?

Removed spots don’t usually return, but DPN can be hereditary, so new spots may appear over time.

How much does DPN removal cost in Atlanta?

What’s the difference between DPN and a mole?

DPN are small, dark, benign growths that tend to appear in clusters. Any spot that’s new, changing or irregular should be checked by a dermatologist first.

Does DPN removal hurt?

It’s quick. Most people feel a brief sting or heat on each spot, and comfort is discussed beforehand.

How long does DPN removal take to heal?

Treated spots typically crust over and flake off within days. Protect the area from sun while it heals.
